Starting from the top down, we need a Code of Conduct for the Attorney General’s office.  A determination of criminal battery, or a long pattern of inappropriate behavior, should be a disqualifier for someone to not only lead but to work within in the AG’s office.  I will institute a Code of Conduct and will live by it as I ask the taxpayer-funded staff to do the same.

As our Secretary of State successfully serving for two terms, I ran my office on less taxpayer funds than predecessors going back nearly 20 years.   I annually reverted funds back to the state instead of asking for increases.  I will review expenditures in the office to seek out and eliminate waste and inefficiency. I will eliminate satellite offices near the Attorney General’s home which only seeks to profit from the mileage reimbursement fund. Unfortunately, Mr. Hill abused that Trust.  Conservative State Senator Ryan Mishler noted publicly that he was forced to author Legislation to take this spending authority away from Curtis Hill in order to protect the taxpayers.  That Legislation S.B. 188 in 2018 (http://iga.in.gov/legislative/2018/bills/senate/188#digest-heading) Is now law.  It is truly shocking this action had to be taken.  I will restore trust with the taxpayers by being a strong steward of public resources.  I will put policies and procedures in place to restore fiscal restraint.

As the only candidate for Attorney General with a multi-office, proven record of supporting the Right-to-Life, no exceptions, I will fight back against liberals who are trying to stop our conservative progress   I will successfully lead our pro-life cases moving within our federal courts. I will ensure Indiana takes an active roll in helping support the efforts to value life in our society not only here in Indiana but nationally.  As the only candidate who led the entire nation with the first Voter ID law, and helped successfully defend it and win all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, I have a history of successfully putting Indiana out front on policy.  I will do the same in our efforts to ensure the Constitutional guarantees of Life and Liberty include our unborn.

I will stand behind our law enforcement officers just as I did while serving as Secretary of State.  The current situation in the city of Seattle is disturbing and wrong. I will not tolerate it or rioting here in our great state.  I believe in the right to protest, to exercise our Constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of speech, however the looting which took place around our nation was outrageous.  As our next Attorney General, I will seek to partner with law enforcement on any training and support which can be provided to ensure we are prepared for these issues for years to come.  We need to protect the Constitutional rights of our citizens while also ensuring we do not condone lawlessness.  And when lawlessness and rioting harm our freedoms, I will lead the charge to call out our National Guard to restore order.

As Indiana Secretary of State, I created the Prosecution Assistance Unit (PAU).  My office partnered with law enforcement and local prosecutors to provide expertise in the investigation of financial crimes.  Working together, Indiana prosecutors and I secured over 300 years of prison time for criminals taking advantage of Hoosiers across the state.  As Attorney General, I intend to partner with law enforcement again to create similar prosecution assistance units within the AG’s office.  There are several areas where specialized investigators housed in the Attorney General’s Office can help prosecutors make cases and keep our communities safe from criminals.

Financial Crimes Prosecution Assistance Unit (PAU) specifically to assist local jurisdictions: Local jurisdictions may lack the expertise and resources needed to investigate complex financial crimes.  The AG’s Office could provide forensic accountants or other trained financial crimes investigators to assist local prosecutors in solving and prosecuting these crimes.  We can provide this assistance when asked, but preserve 100% percent discretion for the local prosecutors to file charges as individual liberty over government is best preserved by decentralizing power as much as possible.

Cyber Crimes and Digital Media Analysis:  This specialization area is particularly important when fighting internet crimes against children.  Some areas of the State have partnered with university computer science departments to provide expertise in accessing evidence stored on computers and mobile digital devices.  As Attorney General, I will work with the State’s university system to make such programs available to prosecutors all across our state.

Elder Abuse: Crimes against the elderly is a severe and growing problem.  A prosecution assistance unit in the Attorney General’s Office could assist with investigating physical abuse and neglect cases, as well as financial crimes against endangered adults.  I plan to partner with law enforcement, prosecutors, and Adult Protective Services to accomplish the shared goal of keeping our older loved ones safe.

No other candidate has a proven record of defending the second amendment.  I’ve received an "A" rating by the NRA for my work. I will stand up for our 2nd Amendment Rights personally by ensuring every citizen knows exactly what it means. I will actively work to protect our Constitutional rights. We will never again see this right infringed upon for a global pandemic or any other reason, regardless of any given declared state of emergency.  The right to bear arms is critical to our liberty and as your Attorney General I will always defend it.

While some may claim that our state’s Attorney Generals cannot make China pay for their lies over the Wuhan Coronavirus, I will take action. China has caused dramatic damage to our economy from the COVID-19 Coronavirus.  As the only candidate for Attorney General who has actually held China accountable all the way to the World Economic Forum, I will seek to hold China accountable, both through the Foreign Powers Sovereignty Act and through divestment of Chinese Government Property that exists here in the United States and, specifically, in Indiana.  I will also help our state’s businesses diversify their supply lines to become less reliant on China, or any nation. We need to get our economic freedom back that has been taken by China. No more!  We must regain our financial freedom.

I will stand behind our Constitutional protections including the freedom of religion.  While many misinterpret this as a freedom from religion, I will work to protect our religious liberty.  We are blessed to have a Constitution which defends the right to practice our faith without fear.  These freedoms go hand-in-hand with the freedom of speech.  Too often these freedoms are called into question for conservatives when it comes to Big Tech and social media. We need to ensure our nation continues to have a fair exchange of ideas.  In addition to not letting our economy be shut down again, I will also not let our Churches and synagogues be shut down again by mandate. The Constitution does not stop being applicable because of a virus… or anything else. Our constitution protects our God-given rights. Period. By being responsible, exercising basic Hoosier common sense, we should never again be needlessly shut in our houses.  As the only candidate for Attorney General with a proven, strong rating from FreedomWorks I will stand up for  our freedom and make sure our voices are heard.

As a leader who helped stop illegal and unwanted robocalls, I will work to ensure the law is enforced and that groups who seek to undermine these protections are pushed back.  Simply having the law in place is no longer an adequate protection.  More and more groups are seeking exceptions to the rule and technology has outpaced the existing statute.  I will lead the effort to update our robocalls law to restore the protections we intended.

For Immediate Release May 20, 2020

Rokita will bring certainty in uncertain times, he will hold the seat for Republicans, and ensure conservative leadership for Indiana

Hendricks County, Indiana (May 20, 2020) – Former Indiana Secretary of State and 4th District Congressman, Todd Rokita, announced today he is seeking the Republican nomination for the Office of Attorney General at the upcoming Indiana Republican State Convention.

Rokita, twice elected statewide by General Election voters, is running to bring certainty to the race and help Republicans hold onto this seat in November.

“Among the Republicans running for Attorney General, no other candidate has won a statewide general election twice, no other candidate has a multi-office proven record of standing behind our God-given rights.  I am A-rated in defending our Constitution’s 2nd Amendment, and I have a 100% proven voting record of defending the right-to-life, no exceptions,” said Rokita.

“I have worked to protect our small business job creators, the only candidate to earn a Guardian of Small Business award multiple times for fighting job-killing red tape and high taxes.  All of these issues are important as we provide Indiana voters the trusted leadership they need in representing their interests before Indiana and federal courts,” said Rokita.

As Indiana Secretary of State, Rokita led the charge against voter fraud by fighting for, and successfully implementing, the nation’s first ever photo voter ID law.  With a strong legal background, he created the Secretary of State’s financial crimes unit and aggressively pursued those that defrauded Hoosiers, winning convictions. As a Congressman, Rokita fought Washington bureaucrats and the establishment to push for fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets.

“Running against a Republican officeholder is not something I ever would want to do, in just about any circumstance. But our incumbent is wounded.  The unanimous Supreme Court ruling, by Republican appointed and conservative Justices, after a significant investigation of the facts made this choice clear,” said Rokita.

Kosciusko County Chairman, Mike Ragan agrees, “ The Court stated in writing that our attorney general  “committed criminal battery” and suspended his law license.  Our party must put forward a new, proven, and trusted nominee, and there is no better choice than Todd Rokita.” said Ragan.

“We are in great danger of losing the seat to a George Soros-funded liberal democrat if we don’t rally around a new candidate.  There is no way that I, or any other true concerned conservative, should let that happen. I am supporting Todd Rokita because he has a proven record of success on the ballot and an impeccable record of supporting our values,” said LaGrange County Republican Party Chairman and Delegate, Patricia Brown.

“I have known Todd for more than two decades.  During that time, I have seen him fight relentlessly for our conservative values.  I have seen him staunchly defend our second amendment rights and hold absolutely true to our pro-life values with unwavering support. But Todd has also been a supporter and friend. He has visited all 92 counties multiple times and has helped countless Republican candidates from the local to the federal level.  Todd is a conservative fighter and a man of integrity that I am proud to support for Attorney General,” said Indiana State Senator and filed convention Delegate Erin Houchin.

Of why he is supporting Rokita in the convention, Harrison County Prosecutor and Delegate, J. Otto Schalk, said, “Todd Rokita is no stranger to Delegates or a newcomer to the party.  He has worked alongside Delegates, conservative leaders, and office holders, like me, all across Indiana for years.”

Rokita has built a well-known reputation over the years for being an independent leader and aggressive fighter on behalf of conservative principles. “I have fought for our Republican ideals working in the trenches alongside and supporting candidates up and down the ballot. Running for Attorney General is not a step I take lightly. I am not coming to this race because some powers on high asked or told me to do so, I am coming to this race to protect our shared values.  I am not – and will not – be controlled by anyone or anything other than our shared beliefs,” said Rokita.

Republicans have seen the Office of Attorney General change hands multiple times over the last several decades.  Although the state has had three Republican Attorneys General in a row, prior to that Indiana elected three Democrat Attorneys General in a row, including one appointment.  Republicans will likely want to ensure the voters in November have a candidate they can trust and support or the party could be in danger of losing the seat to more liberal ideologies.

Hendricks County filed Delegate, Jodi Smith says of Rokita, “Indiana Republicans voting in the June convention can be certain that Todd Rokita will bring real leadership, a proven record of success on the November ballot, and a proven record of winning important battles on behalf of our conservative Indiana values.” Smith also serves as First Vice-President of the Indiana Federation of Republican Women, State Director for the Pro-Life Susan B. Anthony List and advocates for Indiana Right to Life.

Rokita says, “We know in our hearts and minds the November voters will look for a tested, experienced and mature legal mind; not someone embroiled in controversy or still learning on the job. These are uncertain and unprecedented times. We need the certainty of a proven conservative who can win in the fall.”
